Checks where a target phrase actually appears on a page: the title, the meta description, each heading level, the body text, link anchors, image alt attributes and the URL.
**There is no score.** Every tool that gives you a "keyword optimisation percentage" made that number up — no search engine publishes one, and none of them works the way a score implies. What this reports is factual: the phrase is in the h1 or it is not.
The one finding worth flagging is the reverse of what people expect. A page repeating its phrase forty times is not more optimised than one using it six times. It reads badly, and reading badly is what costs rankings now — so a high count is reported as a problem rather than as a pass.
Partial matches are counted separately, because a page about "running shoes for flat feet" that never uses that exact phrase but covers every word of it is usually fine, and a tool reporting it as missing sends you to make the writing worse.
Common questions
How many times should the keyword appear?
There is no number. Write the page for a reader and the phrase appears as often as it naturally does. The only count worth acting on is one high enough that the page reads badly, which this flags.
Does the exact phrase have to appear?
No. Search engines have matched meaning rather than strings for years. Getting it into the title and the h1 is still worth doing because those are what a reader sees in the result; forcing it into body copy is not.
Where does placement matter most?
The title and the h1, because they tell a reader in the search result that the page answers their question. After those the returns fall off quickly.
Why does keyword density not appear here?
Because it has not been a ranking factor for well over a decade, and treating it as one produces worse writing. The density tool exists for finding accidental repetition, which is a different question.
